To create a modern open plan kitchen diner and five bathrooms for a new build property
About The Project
‘This project was really exciting to work on. My clients were building a stunning new Modernist property on the cliff top over looking the sea in Kessingland.
When I arrived on site it was literally a patch of mud. I actually remember drawing the rough outline of the kitchen island using a stick in the muddy ground – rather rudimentary I know!
The kitchen diner and living space was to be one large open plan space with floor to ceiling glass windows to maximise the view. My clients were keen for the interior to tie in with the coastal location in a subtle and modern way. They also wanted a super-sized working kitchen island with a lower area for seating.
I created this huge kitchen bank with the idea of using soft grey, handleless kitchen doors to keep the overall look sleek, and a white Corian worksurface that could be moulded so that it could curve down gently onto the lower dining table area – in some abstract way like a wave on the sea on a grey day.
All appliances were built-in and I chose an undermount sink so that these clean lines remained unbroken.
On the living room side of the island I designed bespoke open shelving and cabinets, so that my client could display her Emily Bridgewater crockery, and have somewhere for her books and family games etc.
Finally, my client was particularly keen to use a bright eye-catching pink as a splash of colour. The bespoke glass splashbacks I had made so that they ranged in shade from a dark cherry colour through to a brilliant bright pink. We also painted the vertical steel supporting column in the room a bright pink to match.
It was a real pleasure to work on this project with my clients and help their dream home become a reality.’
