The Brief
To remove supporting walls of a utility to create one large open plan kitchen diner and to re-configure a small room leading from the kitchen to create a new utility and pantry. A real statement kitchen with strong, bold colours with both modern and traditional elements to tie in with the rest of the house renovation Coulby Interiors are undertaking.About The Project
'I have worked with my clients for a few years now renovating their listed Georgian manor house. As always, they wanted to me to create a truly beautiful and unique space, with the highest quality materials.
This period property has had numerous additions over the years, so the build work had to be completed with great care. Various structural steel lintels were required in order to create this one open plan kitchen diner space, including ‘train track’ lintels and steel posts. Rather than conceal this work, I wanted it to utilise it to add something extra to the overall design.
The ceilings and floors were not level, so I designed the stud work and boxed-in ceiling sections to line up perfectly with the island and the central AGA. The ceiling lights emphasised these beautiful lines.
This space had to perform many different functions and for both small groups and large parties. I designed a good-sized central island with bar seating and a large extendable table so there would be plenty of seats and spaces for socialising. As I was also designing a cinema room in the next room, I kept the overall colour palette the same, and designed a bespoke, glazed pocket door that could be left open to really open up the space during party season, but could be closed off for cinema viewing. Overall, between the new kitchen diner and the additional pantry and utility, I ensured there was plenty of storage built into the walls so that it was easily accessible without spoiling the beautiful and clean-lined aesthetic. I was really delighted with the finished look, as were my clients.’
Client Testimonial
'Rebecca did a lovely job renovating our home. It was a substantial project but everything went according to plan - not many people are able to project manage that well. The work was completed to a high standard and Rebecca achieved exactly the look we wanted for the house.'
