The Brief
About The Project
My client had recently purchased a Victorian townhouse, intended for use as both a personal retreat and a holiday let. The brief was to fully renovate the ground floor — including the kitchen, utility, and dining room — with the goal of modernising the space while enhancing brightness, functionality, and contemporary comfort. The result is a stylish, welcoming interior that respects the property's period charm while meeting the expectations of modern living.
About The Project
The focal point of this renovation was the kitchen, which was in urgent need of modernisation. We began by completely removing the outdated kitchen and addressing issues with the uneven floor. During this process, we discovered structural problems with several of the floor joists, which we promptly repaired. To ensure a solid and level foundation for the decorative floor tiles in my design, we re-laid the original floorboards and reinforced them with ply boarding.
With the subfloor secure, we moved on to installation. My layout made clever use of the redundant kitchen chimney recess by transforming it into a built-in cupboard — adding valuable, discreet storage. Unlike the previous layout, which wrapped cabinets and worktops around all three walls and made the space feel enclosed, I opted for a more open approach. By using opposing walls for cabinetry, I created a clear distinction between the cooking and cleaning zones, making the space feel larger and more inviting.
The cabinetry featured modern blue-grey doors, which paired beautifully with the striking decorative floor tiles. The overall colour palette echoed a cool, coastal aesthetic, while oak worktops and open shelving added warmth and character. The result is a bright, stylish, and highly functional kitchen — ideal for both relaxing holidays and everyday use.
