The Brief

This generous “L”-shaped room—with four sash windows and soaring 3  metre ceilings offered incredible light and scale, but lacked a cohesive layout. Our aim was to relocate the kitchen and TV zones to fully capitalise on the daylight and volume, while respecting the period nature of the property with a palette that felt both timeless and fresh.

About The Project

I retained a classic foundation using Farrow & Ball “Shadow White” across walls and ceilings and crafting made‑to‑measure shaker‑style cabinetry in a matching tone. To bring in contemporary flair, I introduced grand Tom  Holland twisted wood pendants above the island and subtle, darker accents.

The tall ceilings allowed me to design an impressive wall of bespoke full‑height cabinets, topped with occasional use storage. To add cohesion and drama, I continued the Farrow & Ball “Railings” deep grey on the cooker mantel’s panelled surround, then mirrored this on the built‑in cupboards framing the wood burner and fireplace, and again on the media wall housing the 80″ TV and sound system. All joinery was hand‑made and hand‑painted for a bespoke finish.

The existing solid oak island worktop, lovingly repurposed—was fully stripped and re‑oiled, echoing the oak corbels and harmonising beautifully with the pendants above. The remaining surfaces are quartz in a warm, softly veined hue that balances the oak tones perfectly.

The space is transformed. Light floods the room from every angle; the two zones are unified and functional, yet distinct. The dramatic grey accents provide contrast and richness, while the oak and quartz inject warmth and tactility. It is a sophisticated, versatile family hub.
