The Brief

Our brief was to design a large extension to house an open plan kitchen with separate utility area suitable for lots of cooking and entertaining, with a large dining and social area, with an overall look that was contemporary and high end.

About The Project

This mid-century bungalow in central Norwich featured spacious interiors and a secluded garden, but its kitchen was undersised and outdated. To address this, I designed a single-storey rear extension with anthracite composite cladding, matching bifold doors and window, and a flat roof with skylights. The new kitchen includes modern appliances such as a Quooker tap, wine cooler, American fridge freezer, and a large Rangemaster cooker. The blue cabinetry, accented with orange details, is complemented by solid marble quartz worktops and white vintage tiles with dark blue grout. The result is a spacious, functional kitchen-diner ideal for entertaining.

About The Project

This is a mid-century bungalow with spacious rooms and a beautiful and private back garden for such a central Norwich location, however the kitchen was under-sized and needed completely modernising. I designed a large, single storey rear extension with anthracite composite vertical cladding and matching anthracite bifold doors and window, and a flat roof with skylights.

My clients wanted a modern kitchen with appliances such as a Quooker boiling water tap, a wine cooler, an American Fridge Freezer and a large Rangemaster cooker. The colour palette they had asked for was blue with some orange detailing to contrast. We also colour-matched the blue on the kitchen doors for the wooden barn-style sliding doors into the lounge.

The work surfaces are practical and classic solid marble quartz, and the white vintage tiles with dark blue grout tie in beautifully with the blue kitchen cabinets.

The solid oak dining table, oak effect Karndean flooring and oak edging to the bespoke canopy for the extractor provide texture and natural warmth to the room. I suggested some black detailing in the room and the designer black Kartell bar stools and the black Tom Dixon lights with brass interior add a real touch of elegance.

Overall, the space has been completely transformed. The kitchen diner feels huge, with its well-functioning new kitchen and all the appliances and space needed to cater for entertaining large numbers of friends and family.
