The Brief

The brief for this project was to completely modernise and reconfigure a tired and outdated family home in Norwich, transforming it into a functional, elegant space suited to contemporary living. The existing layout felt disjointed, with several rooms lacking purpose and cohesion.

About The Project

This full-house renovation in Thorpe End, Norwich, required careful planning and thoughtful design to transform the property into a contemporary, family-friendly home. The existing interior was dated, with a disjointed layout that lacked cohesion and natural light. The separate kitchen and dining room were both undersized and poorly connected, making the space feel cramped and inefficient. Additionally, both bathrooms were in need of a complete overhaul to create harmonious, stylish spaces that support modern living.

Rebecca Coulby

About The Project

A major architectural intervention involved removing the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room to create a bright, open-plan kitchen-diner—dramatically improving natural light and spatial connectivity. This new central hub of the home was designed to be both practical and welcoming, incorporating a peninsula for casual dining and extra preparation space, while complementing the character of the property with a restrained, modern aesthetic.

Elsewhere, the lounge was completely reimagined. Bespoke carpentry, including tailored joinery and integrated storage, introduced structure and purpose to the space, while a carefully curated palette and lighting scheme brought warmth and sophistication.

The conversion of the existing garage added a valuable extra bedroom complete with en-suite, creating flexible accommodation for guests or multi-generational living. This space was designed to match the tone and quality of the rest of the home, with attention paid to detailing and flow.

The principal bathroom and en-suite were also entirely renovated, reconfigured with new plumbing to allow for optimised layouts. The principal bathroom now features a freestanding bath, bespoke panelling, and custom vanity, balancing period charm with modern functionality. The guest bathroom continues the home’s design narrative with bold colour and oak accents, bringing personality without compromising on elegance.

The result is a cohesive, modern family home that reflects the owners’ lifestyle and design sensibility—blending practical enhancements with architectural upgrades to create spaces that feel purposeful, refined, and truly connected.

What Our Client Says

Rebecca was exactly what we were looking for. We undertook a significant renovation of a large holiday home property in Suffolk. We're based in London so it wasn't going to be possible for us to do much of the project. Rebecca was fantastic from beginning to end. Her ideas for the aesthetics were great, she listened to and incorporated our feedback, and was supportive when we wanted to make a few tweaks.

But her project management was the real highlight for us. She gave us regular updates. The project kept to its timelines, despite some issues along the way. She was extremely responsive over email whenever we had questions or concerns. And even after the project was essentially finished, she remained in touch for the few snags we had, as well as for a few fall-out issues a couple of months later. I really can't recommend her services more!'
