The Brief
This project forms part of a complete house renovation of a former farmhouse in Norfolk. The brief was to reconfigure a disjointed living / dining area and created an elegant and effective dual living space which complimented the historical character of the propertyAbout The Project
This project formed part of a wider farmhouse renovation in Burgh St. Peter, Norfolk. The existing space was configured in an awkward L-shaped layout that combined a lounge and dining area without clear separation. The lack of definition between zones resulted in a space that felt disjointed and failed to function effectively as a dual-purpose living area.
The design aimed to completely reimagine the space—introducing a seamless connection between the zones while clearly defining their individual purposes. The solution was to create a bespoke cinema room alongside a separate snug/dining area. These two areas could either be opened up to form a spacious, flowing interior or closed off to create cosy, intimate settings tailored to different uses and moods.
In the cinema room, custom cabinetry was designed to house the television and media equipment, complemented by bespoke wall panelling and soft, atmospheric lighting to evoke a sense of calm and retreat—perfectly in keeping with the character of a period countryside home. Handcrafted bifold doors were introduced to allow the space to be subtly enclosed or fully opened, offering maximum flexibility.
A beautiful period brick fireplace and wood-burning stove form a warm, comforting focal point. An unsightly boxed-in ceiling joist was transformed with a bespoke timber-effect beam, adding rustic charm and architectural interest. Additional bespoke wall panelling throughout the space enhances the historical character and complements the home’s original features.
The overall result is a flexible, multi-use living area that can adapt to suit both everyday family life and special occasions. The refined colour palette, attention to detail, and quality craftsmanship elevate the space, celebrating the heritage of the property while delivering modern comfort and usability.
