The Brief

To create a spectacular main bedroom with a copper bath as a central feature. The design must be sympathetic to the period property with some Art Deco detailing, and the sense of a luxury boutique hotel suite.

About The Project

This is the main bedroom of this Grade II listed Georgian property. My clients wanted a real ‘wow’ factor and had the idea of a copper bath to be incorporated within the room. The panelling continues around the entire room at a lower level to form the headboard for the bed and also bespoke built-in storage, hidden within the panelling.

About The Project

This entire room is truly bespoke. I designed all the made to measure and hand painted wall panelling so that it lines up perfectly around the two tall windows and bath area in the corner opposite the door as you walk in. I wanted the focus for the entire room to be on the copper bath. The panelling continues around the entire room at a lower level to form the headboard for the bed and also bespoke built-in storage, hidden within the panelling. We painted the wall panels Little Greene ‘Dock Blue’ to provide a beautiful contrast to the copper bath.

Logistically, it was quite challenging as there was no plumbing in this room, so it involved carefully planning pipework and drainage. In order to create the right fall for the bath waste, we needed to raise the bath up, so I designed a platform for it to stand on. As I had added a design detail of Mother of Pearl mosaic tiles inset within two panels either side of the bath, I thought it would be lovely to create an additional design feature and add Mother of Pearl mosaics to the vertical face of the plinth platform as well. The subtle shimmer of the Mother of Pearl is so elegant when the wall lights are turned on in the evening. The soft blush Art Deco style sofa, and super king sized bed add a final touch of luxury.
