The Brief
About The Project
I have worked with my clients for a few years now renovating their listed Georgian manor house. As always, they wanted to me to create a truly beautiful and unique space, with the highest quality materials. My clients wanted me to design a kitchen space that worked for all seasons – one end to function well in the winter when the AGA was in use, and the other to use more in the summer with a separate built-in oven and combination microwave with induction hob. I therefore needed two sinks, plenty of storage, and separate food preparation areas.
About The Project
The ceilings and floors were not level, so I designed the stud work and boxed-in ceiling sections to line up perfectly with the island and the central Aga. The ceiling lights emphasised these beautiful lines.
My clients like rich, strong colours, so I chose a dark green/grey handless kitchen door with a black quartz worksurface with small mirrored flecks to catch the light and add glamour. The room already had three archways and I really wanted to celebrate these, so using the same black quartz, I designed full height wall panels to be cut into these arches. As the room we were creating was going to be so big, these dark colours worked well. I added some warmth and texture with the solid oak flooring and beautiful copper lights.
This space had to perform many different functions and for both small groups and large parties. I designed a good-sized central island with bar seating and a large extendable table so there would be plenty of seats and spaces for socialising. As I was also designing a cinema room in the next room, I kept the overall colour palette the same, and designed a bespoke, glazed pocket door that could be left open to really open up the space during party season, but could be closed off for cinema viewing. Overall, between the new kitchen diner and the additional pantry and utility, I ensured there was plenty of storage built into the walls so that it was easily accessible without spoiling the beautiful and clean-lined aesthetic. I was really delighted with the finished look, as were my clients.’This period property has had numerous additions over the years, so the build work had to be completed with great care. Various structural steel lintels were required in order to create this one open plan kitchen diner space, including ‘train track’ lintels and steel posts. Rather than conceal this work, I wanted it to utilise it to add something extra to the overall design.
What Our Client Says
'Rebecca did a lovely job renovating our home. It was a substantial project but everything went according to plan - not many people are able to project manage that well. The work was completed to a high standard and Rebecca achieved exactly the look we wanted for the house.'Helen Andrews
