The Brief
To create a beautiful snug and quiet space that could also be used as a home office – without looking like an office.About The Project
‘This snug and home office room forms part of a complete house renovation I have been working on with my clients who live in a beautiful Grade two listed Georgian manor house.
My client was keen for me to design a room that did not look like an office, so that when no one was working, it would have another use as a cosy snug, or quiet space to read. He already had a beautiful antique bureau that he would use as a desk which could be folded away. In addition to this I designed new built-in and bespoke, storage cupboards either side of the fireplace and had them painted the same colour as the wall so they were nice and discreet. Plenty of depth and internal storage space meant that all his work files and folders could be hidden out of sight. I then used oak worktops and shelves for more decorative items.
The entire fireplace needed complete renovation. The front of the chimney breast was rendered, plastered and painted, but we restored the original brickwork within the recess itself. A new wood burner and black granite hearth finished it off beautifully.
What Our Client Thinks
'Helen and I are both very pleased with the final result and are looking forward to using them in the months and years to come both for ourselves and with family and friends. They are both lovely spaces in different ways and once we have the finishing touches of some rugs, the coffee table and plant they will be beyond perfect.’
