The Brief
This project was to modernise and fully renovate a twin-barn holiday let in Southwold, Suffolk. The property contained 2 kitchens / living spaces, 8 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 2 W/C's. The clients wished to modernise the entire property to appeal to a wider range of potential clients including extending the footprint of the property to include 2 additional bathrooms.About The Project
'This was a thoroughly enjoyable project to design and complete as it included entirely renovating two existing holiday let barns, as well as extending the property to include additional bathrooms and bedrooms.
'The property is set in a spectacular location adjacent to the Blyth estuary near Southwold, Suffolk. My clients wished to update and modernise the entire property with a more contemporary design and palette to cater for a wider range of guests. Fundamental to the design was extending the property to include additional interior space for additional bathrooms and bedrooms to cater for more guests.'
'The property had not been updated in a number of years and presented a number of design challenges, especially in the kitchens and bedrooms to maximise space and functionality whilst incorporating all requirements for maximum occupancy.'
'The open plan nature of both properties mean the primary design focus was the kitchen / diner and living spaces and fitting in everything in a way that allowed the space to function effectively.
'In the larger of the two barns, I designed a new hidden bespoke staircase leading to a newly created bedroom, and used the newly created adjacent wall to fit the kitchen cabinets and cooker. I also designed a breakfast bar which neatly partitioned the walkway whilst also allowing space for a formal dining table for up to 8 people.
'I chose for both properties the same colour palette; light oak luxury vinyl flooring, mussel cabinets and doors in the kitchen and contrasting Anthracite Grey for all doors. The effect was a modern and natural tone throughout, which matched perfectly the outside scenery and location of the property.'
'In total the project required designs and installation of 2 new kitchens / living spaces, 8 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, including bespoke carpentry and creation of new rooms and spaces. I was delighted with the end result; the design and functionality, palette and materials worked perfectly together in the property and within the environment it was situated.
What Our Client Says
'Rebecca was exactly what we were looking for. We undertook a significant renovation of a large holiday home property in Suffolk. We're based in London so it wasn't going to be possible for us to do much of the project. Rebecca was fantastic from beginning to end. Her ideas for the aesthetics were great, she listened to and incorporated our feedback, and was supportive when we wanted to make a few tweaks.
But her project management was the real highlight for us. She gave us regular updates. The project kept to its timelines, despite some issues along the way. She was extremely responsive over email whenever we had questions or concerns. And even after the project was essentially finished, she remained in touch for the few snags we had, as well as for a few fall-out issues a couple of months later. I really can't recommend her services more!'
